Music links
There are a plethora of websites devoted to classical music. A pretty good survey of what is available can be found at Classical Net, and so I will restrict myself to the following areas.
Radio stations
BBC Radio 3 has a comprehensive website; the same cannot be said for Jazz FM. However, they do both broadcast over the net. Those who have occasion to visit south-west Germany may be interested in listening to the excellent SWR2.
Reviews and record shops
Classical record buyers are particularly well served on the web. Gramophone magazine has an excellent free database of all its reviews since 1983. Radio 3 has also put online a catalogue of the recordings which have been recommended during the last twenty years of Building a Library.
Another periodical worth a look is Unknown Public, a CD quarterly devoted to otherwise hard-to-find "creative music". Though quarterly seems a bit of a misnomer given it has taken 6 years for the first 10 issues to appear...
There are many online record stores, including Amazon.co.uk, HMV, and Play.com. Buy direct from the publisher at NMC, an excellent independent (charitable) record label for contemporary British music.
Music venues
The major classical music venues in London are the South Bank Centre and the Barbican Centre. Jazz clubs with websites include the Vortex in Stoke Newington, the 606 Club and, of course, Ronnie Scott's.
