I am Senior Lecturer in Political Economy in the Department of Economics, School of Social Sciences, City University, London, and Centre Research Associate, Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science, London School of Economics.

This page supplies links to pages giving details of my research and teaching duties, and some personal information.

Research

My research interests are in the history and philosophy of economics, and heterodox economics.  I have published on Adam Smith, Keynes, Hayek, and methodology, and I have work in the pipeline on Malthus, the notion of equilibrium in neoclassical economics, the methodology of the Austrian school of economics, and the early Marx.  Click here for more information.

Teaching

My teaching duties in academic year 2006-2007 consist of the macroeconomic half of the core intermediate economic theory module taken by the undergraduate students in Part 2 of their degree; two optional modules, one on economic methodology taken in Part 2 and another on history of economic thought taken in Part 3; and a two week block on fiscal policy in the ‘Topics in Applied Macroeconomics’ module in Part 1.  I also have 25-30 undergraduate personal tutees and supervise a small number of undergraduate final year projects.  Teaching materials for these modules will be available to students on CitySpace (City University’s application of WebCT).  Academics and students who do not have access via CitySpace but who are interested in what I am teaching on any of these modules should send me an email (a.denis_at_city.ac.uk).

Administration

My administrative duties for academic year 2006-2007 are: programme director, BSc Economics & Accountancy; departmental manager of visiting lecturers, and senior tutor for research.  In the latter role I will be assisting the director of research, in particular by administering the MPhil/PhD programme.
