London History and Philosophy of Economics group

The purposes of the London History and Philosophy of Economics group are to

• provide mutual support and advice for those teaching and researching in History of Economic Thought, and the philosophy and methodology of the discipline – areas which seem undervalued by much of the profession;

• meet occasionally for a drink and/or something to eat;

• hold an occasional seminar to hear one or two papers from amongst ourselves or from a guest;

• to forward notice of similar seminars and meetings held by others;

• swap gossip and information on the discipline in London and elsewhere;

• discuss topics of interest and work in progress on an email discussion list;

• provide early feedback on each other's conference papers and journal submissions to maximise probability of acceptance.

There is no committee for the group, or any other bureaucratic structures. Membership does not oblige anyone to do anything. Members simply elect to receive emails from the discussion list – they may respond to them (by contributing to discussion, attending a seminar, etc) if they feel like it, or choose not to do so if they don’t.
