This section focuses on repair and strengthening techniques
for existing residential buildings. The scope of housing types discussed, corresponds to the covered scope of housing types for
new construction.
Particular emphasis is given to housing with lateral load-resisting system of masonry walls.
In Asia, Latin and South America, North America as well as, in many areas of Europe existing substandard
buildings of all masonry types, represent a significant part of the existing building stock.
The seismic vulnerability of these buildings is relatively high and therefore efficient strengthening procedures,
as well as post-earthquake repair techniques are vital.
The information will apply to existing, both non-engineered and engineered structure planning, design and detailing. |
