Descritption |
| The purpose of
these guides is to present practical guidance and criteria
for earthquake resistant planning, design, detailing and
construction for low to medium rise residential
buildings with primary lateral load resisting system
consisting of masonry bearing walls or Infilled RC
Frames. Particular emphasis is given to non-engineered
construction systems which are common in many parts of
the world. Detailed guidance is also provided for
retrofit and upgrade of earthquake damaged buildings or
rehabilitation of the existing residential building
stock. |

| |
Scope |
The information
will apply to design and detailing of new residential
construction including additions and alterations. Every
structure, and portion there of, will be conceived and
detailed to resist the effects of earthquake motions as
described within the relative portion. Significant part
of this report has been dedicated to traditional
non-engineered, long-practised form of construction where
logistical considerations such as availability of
building materials, climate conditions, wind loading
etc, are already considered. The information for
retrofitting of earthquake damaged housing in this
document addresses:
- Guidance to evaluate anticipated seismic
performance to decide whether to accept, retrofit or upgrade an earthquake damaged building
- The parameters to be considered when deciding on
the scope of repair and suitable techniques
