Coursework
Requirements:
We will go through what
the assignment entails by reading a paper together and discussing it in
week 5
in term 1. The real coursework is a written assignment completed
individually. Your coursework mark for the year will be based on the
mark awarded for your written assignment in term 2.
The
written assignment: term 2
Due/hand-in
dates: Set Jan
19th - hand in Friday 2pm March 3rd 2006.
These
assignments should be approximately 3 pages long (about 1000 words and not
more than 1,200 words – please provide a word count - see below on
penalties) and should start
with a SHORT summary of the paper you have read (Be selective in what you summarize
- you cannot write about everything).
Following this, you should try to integrate the message of the
paper into what you know about the field.
Present any criticisms or support, with backup from other studies
or research. You should also
read at least one other
original article, and should integrate what you have read into your main
reading for the course and what we have discussed in lectures.
Please
submit work along with plagarism and cover sheet no later than 4pm on or before the deadline. Coursework must be accompanied by a
coversheet with a word count. NO WORD COUNT NO MARK
Penalties:
For those of you intending to go over the 1,200 word limit please take
note: late submission - 5 marks (per day for 4 days), word count
1,201-1,450 - 5 marks, 1,451 and over - 10 marks)
The
generally agreed upon marking scheme is Summary of Target Article
(40%), Additional argument & Supportive literature (30%), Structure,
Style & organisation (30%).

I have put a copy of some
papers in a reading box on top of the student pigeon holes. These will not
