An experimental rotary vane compressor which operates without contact between the vanes and the casing.

A full design and development programme, including the construction of a closed refrigeration test loop was carried out by the Centre to produce a preprototype
version. This ran for over 400 hours, without failure, at adiabatic and volumetric efficiencies superior to those of commercially available vane and reciprocating types of compressor.
